Today, I finally finished my first… Not joking… I have never made one before, gingerbread house. Yes, I wanted a challenge and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Also, it's GlutenFree! This two-story house has candy glass windows and a candy creek with a gingerbread bridge and as much sugary snow as I could possibly put on it. I hope you enjoy the video.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments I will try to get back with you within the week. I hope you use this video to help you make your own gingerbread house for this Christmas season. I'm leaving the recipes for the gingerbread and the icing below. I hope that you have a blessed holiday season!
Gingerbread Recipe:
Dry Ingredients: 4 cups of flour (all purpose flour or no rising agents added) 1 teaspoon of ginger 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1 teaspoon of nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon of cloves 1 pinch of salt
Wet Ingredients: 3/4 cup of butter 1 1/2 tablespoons of molasses (if you are using gluten-free flour that usually bakes lighter than the other flours add 2 tablespoons of molasses this will help with the color of your gingerbread) 1 cup of white sugar 2 eggs (3 eggs if you are using gluten-free flour this helps to bind the mixture)
Wilton's Royal Recipe: 1 pound of powdered sugar 3 tablespoons of meringue powder (I used Wilton's meringue powder) 6 tablespoons of water
Mix all ingredients together with a spoon.
To add the snow look around the house leave the icing runny, it will harden once it is dry. You can add more sugar if needed to make the royal icing less runny. You will need to make sure it is sticky to work best for putting your walls together.
